My Dog Training Philosophy
At Do More Dog Training, my training philosophy is rooted in building clear boundaries and expectations for your dog. We will create a dog that loves to learn. Learning is fun not painful. Structure, clear communication, and engagement with you are crucial for successful training. Using positive reinforcement techniques we can easily teach your dog behaviors by using their favorite rewards. Using marker training we can clearly communicate to your dog what behaviors we like and which we do not. After the dog has learned the behavior, if necessary, appropriate levels of correction will be used. Dominance and fear are never training methods that I utilize. All of my clients are provided with an enrichment plan to ensure that your dog is being fulfilled mentally and physically. I've found that this is crucial for a relaxed and balanced dog which in turn lowers problem behaviors. I am a huge proponent of the saying "not one size fits all". Every dog is an individual and I treat them as such. When you entrust me with training your dog you are entrusting someone who is always learning. I am constantly continuing to become a better dog trainer by attending seminars, reading and watching new content, working towards advanced certifications, and competing in dog sports with my own dogs. I sincerely look forward to helping you do more training with your dog and make them a better member of your family. BIO
Hello! My name is Sydney Bates. I've been working with dogs professionally since I was 15 years old, though I've had a lifelong passion for dogs. I started out as a kennel hand at a conformation (show) kennel for German Shorthaired Pointers and Vizslas. My responsibilities included whelping puppies, socializing and training show dogs, as well as general care. The first dog I trained on my own obtained his AKC Championship at just 11 months old. After 2 and a half years there, I decided to take a summer job as a kennel technician at my local animal shelter. At the shelter, I was exposed to all kinds of different breeds, behaviors, and backgrounds. My responsibilities there were to provide general care to the dogs, assist with veterinary care and procedures, training dogs, as well as to conduct adoption meet & greets. At the shelter I was able to gain the valuable experience of training and handling fearful, aggressive, and abused dogs. In the Spring of 2016, I started apprenticing under a master trainer who has almost 50 years of dog training experience. He competes at the national level in a dog sport called IGP (formally Schutzhund) and is a certified explosive K9 detection handler and instructor. He also specializes in working with high drive dogs and dogs that have aggression and/or fear issues. Under him, I have gained crucial skills in formal competition obedience and behavior modification. I apprenticed under him for a wonderful 4 years while I was in college. In May of 2019 I graduated with honors from Delaware Valley University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. In the summer of 2020 I finally started my own business. In my free time I love exploring the outdoors and competing in dog sports with my dogs Tripp & Vespa. In August of 2020 I became Dog Trainer Foundation Certified through the IACP. I am a member of the Golden Retriever Club of America, Y2K9s Dog Sport Club, Navesink Hunting Retriever Club, Waterland Retriever Club, the American Russell Terrier Club, and the American Working Terrier Association. I am the former Secretary and founding member of the Tri-State IGP Working Dog Club. Dog training is a part time business for me. My availability is weekends with the occasional week night. |
